Description
- Description
- Some vehicles are built to get you from A to B. Ludvig was built to take a family much further. Based on a 2004 MOWAG Duro, this 6×6 expedition truck began its life in British Army service before returning to Germany, where it was inspected by an authorised MOWAG Bucher representative. It was subsequently transformed into a spacious, self contained expedition motorhome by specialist tradespeople. In its current owners' hands, Ludvig has already proved itself as a family adventure vehicle. Over the course of the last 16 months, the family spent around ten months travelling together with their two children. With school commitments and new professional projects now taking priority, they are ready to pass Ludvig on to another family looking to create adventures of their own. Built for independence At the heart of Ludvig is its six wheel drive platform, powered by a Cummins engine producing 135 kW and paired with an automatic transmission. With differential locks, a 420 litre fuel tank and a gross vehicle weight of 9,350 kg, it offers a substantial foundation for extended expedition travel. The reinforced habitation cabin features 58 mm insulated walls and roof, with a 66 mm floor. Inside, the layout accommodates four people, with a 2.20 × 2.00 m family lift bed and two additional bunk beds. A home designed for extended travel Ludvig's equipment is centred on practical self sufficiency. Its 600 litre fresh water tank is complemented by 200 litre grey water and 200 litre black water tanks. A filtration system with UV treatment provides additional water treatment capability, while the Sanimarin macerating toilet forms part of the onboard sanitation system. The electrical installation is equally substantial: a 920 Ah Bulltron battery bank operating at 24 V, a Victron 5,000 W inverter and a theoretical solar capacity of 1,690 Wp. Heating and hot water can operate electrically or on diesel, supported by underfloor heating, separate fan heaters and additional heating elements for the water tanks. Everyday comforts include air conditioning, an induction hob, an oven and microwave combination, a refrigerator, a mini washing machine and indoor and outdoor shower facilities. Outside, a roof mounted safety rail protects the solar installation, while the awning, extendable terrace and adjustable bicycle carrier make longer stops more comfortable. Sand ladders and a rear view camera add useful equipment for travelling and manoeuvring. A carefully documented conversion The conversion was completed by specialist tradespeople, with technical plans covering the heating, electrical installation, furniture and habitation cabin. The owners also have an operating manual and two folders of documentation, which they offer to review with prospective buyers during a viewing. The truck has covered approximately 31,000 km. The owners openly acknowledge that it has acquired some signs of use since the photographs were taken, so prospective buyers should inspect its present condition in person. Ready for its next chapter Ludvig is not simply an empty truck waiting to be converted. It is an established family expedition motorhome with substantial water, electrical and living facilities, and a real history of extended travel. Now, its next chapter awaits a new owner, perhaps another family hoping to exchange familiar routines for unfamiliar roads, mountain views and more time together.
